Veterans Memorial Park

CITY OF RAINIER VETERANS

MEMORIAL PARK

 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The City Of Rainier is engaged in the reconstruction of our Veterans Memorial Park located on State Highway 507 (Binghampton Street).  During reconstruction the group of fir trees at the rear of the memorial park and the old concrete slab will be removed and the memorial park area re-graded.  The existing marble marker at the front of the memorial park will remain in its current location.

The reconstructed memorial park will contain the following upon completion:

  • An exposed aggregate concrete flag plaza with eight flag poles flying the United States, Washington State, POW/MIA, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard Flags.  The United States flag will be lighted by in ground lights from dusk till dawn.

  • A four foot by eight foot wall of remembrance where laser engraved 4”x 8” and 8” x 8” tiles will be placed. These tiles will be available for purchase by individuals, families, civic groups, businesses, or park donors.

  • A five foot wide sidewalk adjacent to the wall of remembrance for future place of laser engraved bricks.

  • Two paved pathways connecting state highway 507 (Binghampton Street), and the Yelm to Tenino trail with the flag plaza.

  • Several benches for visitors to sit and reflect.

  • Flowering cherry trees at the four corners of the memorial park and the remainder of the park area will be in grass.

The memorial park will be surrounded on three sides by black chain link fencing.

The initial construction costs are being financed by a $5,000.00 grant from the Washington State Department of Veterans affairs and by contributions from interested citizens.  Additional funds are needed to complete the project and donations are welcome.  Various civic and service clubs have pledged to hold fund raisers to help support the memorial park project.  Anyone who wishes to donate to this effort may do so.  Contact the Rainier City Clerk for more information on this worthwhile project.
